About a hour after transferring a train and a bus from Paris, I reached the house of Claude Monet.

After a great success as a painter, he purchased the land in this place and set up his residence and atelier. At that time he took a tributary from the epte river and created this pond. Everything is to draw a picture.

The garden opposite the pond was full of flowers and greenery in October just before the closure, like a paradise of birds and insects. Places that attracted many photographers including Stephen Shore.

It was unfortunate weather, Eindhoven.

I would like to introduce some of what I saw at the Ducth Design Week 2017 that was held last month.

"Time Included Cloth"

"Time Included Cloth"

Using textiles degrades the quality. This is a textile made based on the concept of changing the fabric and giving value by being exposed to washing, abrasion, sunlight etc. By using it changes from the left side to the right side fabric.
It was devised for consumption society and was announced in graduation show of Design Academy Eindvohen 2016.

1237-2

This year's DAE graduation show curator was "Formafantasma".

1237-3

This is like a foldable field made of cardboard in a honeycomb structure. It is supposed to be used in a dry refugee camp site, filling the desert soil and adding seeds and water, the corrugated cardboard will protect corrosion of plants and promote water penetration. Also according to the growth of the plant, this wall will be gone.

This work was invented as a way to rebuild life. The average time for refugees to stay in camps is as long as 17 years. I was shocked by the reality that refugees who were forced to suffer receive.

1237-4

Dutch wife

This blanket named Dutch wife.

At the time the Netherlands dominated Indonesia as a colony, the cylinder knitted with this bamboo was made as a holding pillow. It seems to call this Ducth wife. It is totally different from the meaning of Japanese. In Indonesia in a tropical climate, it seems that you feel a cold feeling from bamboo by holding this while going to bed.

Designers who traveled in Indonesia have made this as a product to reconsider history and crafting by unraveling the past between two countries through this almost unknown Ducth wife, interpreting it as a blanket in contemporary times.

Although it was different from graduation show,  a project that has developed mycelials such as mushrooms as sustainable materials of consumer products was introduced.

The place has changed, and it was also introduced last year, "BAARS BLOEMHOFF" booth of companies dealing with interior materials.

This lighting designed by studio truly truly mainly uses finishing materials used on walls such as the bulltin board. The above picture is seen from the back of the material, it is made from renewable natural materials, light and supple. Various color variations are abundant, and this material is also introduced in Japan.

Atelier NL

Atelier NL was crowded with so many people.

Their project of this year uses "sand" sent from about 400 places worldwide as an art project that anyone can participate.

"To see a World in a Grain of Sand
And a Heaven in a Wild Flower
Hold Infinty in the palm of your hand
And Eternity in an hour "

Poetry of British poet "William Blake" of the 18th century. It is the spirit of this project.

Based on their own experiences, they melted the sand of each place sent in the glass, showing the color and texture of the land clearly.

1237-12

The sand was a giant rock that changed over time and became grains.
Each of these grains has its own story, and they seem to think that the world that they see in the sand can be seen in our world as well.

This sand telling current and past talks about our diversity, an exhibition that will give each person a chance to think about the present era. I respected the brilliant method.

A number of questions that make me feel DDW every year is my guiding light.

When I awoke with chilly weather, wind was blowing through a slightly opened skylight.

French language is overflowing from TV which forgot to turn off the switch. I was dazed for a while, I was looking at the refreshingly sunny view from this window. Although it was an attic room with a poor shower, I left all the coins that were in the coin purse.

The clear stream chosen as one of Japan's famous water is overwhelmingly powerful, and we can recognize how small we are. But this overwhelming power gives rich blessings to everything including us.

While looking at the picture, I need to shape up, I think.

Ducth Design Week in 2016. The carpet that I saw at the first place I visited.

At Klokgebouw, a large exhibition hall, the venue was constructed based on the concept of "No Waste" (no waste). Furniture etc used at this venue was used free of charge from partner companies and all materials were reused and recycled.

This year's theme of DDW is "The making of". It seems to focus on the manufacturing process and designer · manufacturer. It was also a sequel to the theme "It's your world" in 2015. Products that we usually use often make me think again about what process we are going through, including the mining of materials.

1112-2

1112-3

"The Toaster Project", a project to create a toaster from the beginning. British designer Thomas Thwaites announced in 2009. The video of the production process is interesting. He has been in the past at TED and can see his project.
At another venue, his project, "Goat Man", which was another project of himself was going to be a goat project was introduced. A very unique person!

1112-4

This is a project to make substitute products of seaweed-based natural materials as a substitute material for synthetic plastics, where problems of environmental pollution spread. Other ideas using seaweed are attracting attention because there are ideas to make textiles using fibers.

1112-27

This year's Dutch Design Award.

Christian Meindertsma 's "Flax chair" arriving in our store next year and glass bricks used in CHANEL, etc...nominated for each category. The visitor saw the Finalists' work and used the coins handed in the venue to vote for the work they liked.

Design Academy Eindhoven

Graduation work exhibition of Design Academy Eindhoven.

This is a chair and rug made using the pine needle released by Tamara Orjola. In Europe, 600 million pine trees are harvested every year, and pine needles are unused. She focused on that, she discovered that it would be a substitute for textile products. This material was used as an announcement of this work.
Works that are conscious of environmental and social problems are increasing.

Daphna Laurens

Daphna Laurens

Daphna Laurens is a designer that combines art with design.

They exhibited lighting, furniture and accessories using linoleum material for furniture which is natural material with linseed oil as the main raw material.
The combination of colors was wonderful.

rENs

rENs is a designer who explores colors and materials and collaborates with various companies.

In this exhibition, works made by focusing on the materials of "black" supplied by BAARS & BLOEMHOFF. The shape seems to be inspired from building blocks, and it looked like a minimalist sculpture work.

1112-11

At the venue of Sectie-C, there was an exhibition of NACHO CARBONELL which holds an atelier in the same place.

This year's ambassador of DDW, I headed for the exhibition of MAARTEN BAAS.

1112-15

I came in and found him by chance!

1112-16

1112-20

Activity as his designer seems to be the 15th anniversary, and DDW is also 15th anniversary.
In the exhibition, the work of the past and the latest furniture series "Close Parity" which was made by combining iron and brass were first announced.

1112-17

Theo Jansenの ”Beach Animal".

It seems that we enjoyed dinner collaborated with chef by reservation. What kind of dishe was offered?

1112-18

Tree Trunk Chair.

And the latest chair, Tree Trunk Chair.

It seems that completion will be 2216 years after 200 years. Great!!
I enjoyed this exhibition very much.

I picked it up and introduced DDW.
I was blessed with the weather this year and I ran around with a bicycle for rent. Bicycle developed countries are easier to run, thank you!

1112-24

Finally, I'll introduce 'Schiphol Clock' which was set up in Schipol airport departure lobby this year!
